Race for Whitley County Jailer now has six candidates after Moses withdraws
It is now a six-person race to be the next Whitley County Jailer as Rocky Moses, Jr. withdrew from the race on Thursday.
Moses announced the decision on his Facebook page Thursday morning.
“I want to start off by saying thank you to each and every one of you that has supported me in this election process! After so many stressful days, a few sleepless nights, and many prayers I’ve decided that I’m taking my name out of the Jailer race,” Moses said.
Moses, who owns and operates Rocky’s Barber Shop in Williamsburg, said he has worked hard over 19 years to build up that business and create great relationships with his customers.
“I’ve had so many ask me ‘Who’s going to cut my hair now?’” Moses said. “I’m not a politician, it changes EVERYTHING. When I go to a ball game, I go to watch a ball game and support the kids in our community. When I see you at Walmart, I speak to you because that’s just who I am! I do love serving our community, and I’ll continue to do so by volunteering my time with the youth of this county!”
In addition, he said he has a young son and wants to have the time with him.
“I know I definitely need him in the years to come of his childhood and I’m going to focus on being the best dad I can be!” Moses said.
With Moses withdrawing, the race in the May primary will be between: Matthew Leach, Brandon White, Andrew Fuson, Sandra Hoke, Jeff Hurst and Jason Wilson.
Incumbent Jailer Brian Lawson had filed to run for re-election but officially withdrew from the race on Dec. 9.
