The Corbin Redhound have another busy week of soccer. Corbin is playing in the Pulaski Hyundai Challenge Cup in Somerset. The ‘Hounds lost to South Laurel Tuesday night in Cup play, 2-1. They played Monticello Wednesday night in the late game but no score has been reported.
The Redhounds will take on Somerset Friday at 7:30 before playing again Saturday in the championship round. The Briar Jumpers are 7-3 on the season and have won two in a row and six of their last seven games. They beat South Laurel, 2-0 and Monticello 3-0 in Cup play.
Last week the Redhounds played in the Stonerside Cup in Paris. They lost to the Bourbon County Colonels Thursday nigh, 2-0.
It was Corbin second straight loss and fourth of the last fifth.
The Colonels (7-4) used their speed to defeat the Redhounds and scored in the sixth minute of the game when sophomore Pedro Martinez took a header off a corner kick and laid in front of senior Jose Soriano. Soriano pushed the ball past the Corbin keeper for a 1-0 lead.
It was a defensive battle the rest of the half as Corbin stopped three other attempts by the Colonels and Bourbon County held the Redhounds scoreless on four shots.
The defensive battle continued into the second half until the Colonels got a break and scored with 23:49 left in the game. Sophomore Josue Soriano, a freshman, scored for the Colonels.
Corbin had a couple attempts in the second half, but was held scoreless.
The Redhounds, (3-5) will face the Colonels of Dixie Heights Saturday in the Stonerside Cup at 11 a.m. Dixie Heights comes in with a 3-7 record, having lost four games in a row. The Colonels lost to Bourbon County, 6-1, Tuesday night and Anderson County, 10-0, Thursday night in Cup play.
