Public’s help sought to locate Save-A-Lot store robbers

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s assistance to find two men, who are wanted for recently robbing a southern Kentucky grocery store employee.

About 11 p.m. on May 16, Deputy Jason Strunk responded to Save-A-Lot near the Kentucky-Tennessee state line.

A store employee told police that while leaving the store, he was approached by two men wearing hoods, dark clothing and hunting masks, who were reportedly armed with shotguns, according to a sheriff’s department release.

The suspects took the employee’s bank bag containing cash and his cell phone, and then drove away in the employee’s 2006 blue Dodge Dakota truck, which was recovered at the end of Keswick Hollow Road.

Sheriff Colan Harrell said that so far there are no suspects in the case, and his department is asking for the public’s help to identify and locate the suspects.

Police only have a vague description of the suspects.

They are believed to be two males between 5’8” – 5

10” who are of average weight.

The store employee wasn’t injured during the incident. Authorities haven’t disclosed how much the robbers got away with.

Harrell said that police don’t know for certain whether the suspects had the store under surveillance to see when employees left for the night with the bank deposit, but “it would be unusual if they were just out there in black with shotguns.”

Strunk is continuing the investigation.
