Proposed football alignment released today; Corbin, Bell Co. to be in same district
The KHSAA has released its 2011-2014 proposed football alignment. All four of the local teams will be affected in one way or another.
The biggest speculation could turn to reality as Corbin was moved to Class 3A in District 4 with Bell County, Casey County, McCreary Central and Wayne County. The big surprise…District 4 is more of a west location and to reach the state finals they would have to go through state powers such as Louisville Central, Elizabethtown, Fort Campbell, Trigg County and Paducah Tilghman.
Lynn Camp and Williamsburg will remain in District 5 with Campbellsville and Berea. Some rumors had Pineville in that district with Campbellsville going more to the west with teams much closer.
Another big shake-up will see Clay County and North Laurel moved out of Class 5A, District 8, leaving only four teams, Harlan County, Letcher Central, Perry Central and Whitley County. North Laurel will move to District 7 with Lincoln County, Madison Southern, Pulaski County, South Laurel and Southwestern.
Clay County will drop to Class 4A and will be in District 6 with Knox Central, Rockcastle County and Russell County.
The KHSAA Board of Control will review the proposed alignment and address feedback from the member schools at its regular meeting, scheduled for Oct. 18-19. If adopted, the draft alignment will begin with the 2011 football season and run through 2014, with an opportunity for adjustment due to enrollment bounds after the 2012 season.
