Property owner detains alleged burglar until police arrive

James Gipson is accused of burglary.
A Williamsburg man is facing a burglary charge after allegedly being caught and detained by the property owner Sunday morning.
Kentucky State Police Trooper Scott Bunch arrested James Daryl Gipson, 37, of Highway 204, at 9:57 a.m. charging him with second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and public intoxication controlled substance excludes alcohol.
The alleged burglary happened at the Highway 511 property of Russell Mayne.
“The property owner caught Mr. Gipson in the building and detained him until I arrived,” Bunch wrote on the arrest citation.
The citation also alleged that Gipson trespassed on private property, entered a building and removed and damaged items in addition to damaging a truck belonging to the property owner.
Gipson pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Monday afternoon in Whitley District Court.
Judge Fred White appointed the public advocate’s office to represent Gipson, scheduled a May 8 preliminary hearing in his case and set a $10,000 cash bond.
