Police seeking leads in late-night burglary of Whitley Pharmacy
Williamsburg Police are searching for a burglar who dressed in all black and left no tracks while stealing pain pills from a Williamsburg pharmacy.
Chief Wayne Bird said the perpetrator hit Whitley Pharmacy in the Highland Park area early Monday morning after making entry through a neighboring doctor’s office.
“He busted out a window to get into the doctor’s office,” Bird said. “There was an employee in the office. She locked herself inside another room and called 911.”
Bird said the burglar then busted out a window to get into the pharmacy where he went straight to the schedule III narcotics. After taking an undetermined amount of pills, which Bird described as Hydrocodone and similar strength pain killers, the burglar left the store and just disappeared.
Bird said in addition to the black clothes and mask, the burglar wore surgical gloves to avoid leaving finger prints. Bird noted he was in the store a total of four minutes.
“It appears to me that this gentleman was either very familiar with the pharmacy or he had done this before,” Bird said.
A police K-9 unit was brought to the scene, but Bird said rain showers left to tracks or scent. Video of the crime shows the burglar with a hammer in his hand, but Bird said there were no marks police could see to help identify the suspect. Bird added it appears the burglar was acting alone.
Anyone with information about the perpetrator is asked to contact Det. Bobby Freeman at the Williamsburg Police Department, 549-0875.
