Police seek public’s help in identifying north Corbin hotel thief

Anyone that can identify the man shown above is encouraged to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Department.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help to find the man who emptied the cash drawer at the front desk of the Comfort Suites in North Corbin Friday night.
According to Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, public affairs officers with the department, video surveillance shows the burglar coming through the front door of the hotel about 2:55 a.m.
"He went down the hallway trying doors until he found one that was unlocked and then went around the counter and looked around until he found the key to the cash drawer," Acciardo said of the burglar, estimating he was in and out of the hotel in about three minutes.
At the time, Acciardo said the desk clerk had gone to another room down the hallway.
It remains unclear how the suspect got away or whether he was working alone as there is no video once the burglar left the building.
However, Acciardo said deputies interviewed several people at Love’s Truck Stop next door, who reported seeing him around the area on several occasions.
"He appears to be local," Acciardo said.
Acciardo added the incident is being investigated as a burglary instead of a robbery because there was no threat of force used during the crime.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 606-864-660. Callers may remain anonymous.
