Police say man attacked wife to keep her quiet about over $20,000 in stolen items

Police discovered over $20,000 worth of stolen items in a Corbin man’s home earlier this week, and they claim he assaulted his wife in an effort to prevent her from reporting the items to authorities.
David Osborne, 36, was arrested Tuesday and charged with five counts of receiving stolen property, public intoxication and assault following an investigation at his 5th Street residence.
According to Corbin Police Department Public Affairs Officer Rob Jones, authorities were attempting to make entry into the home at 705 W. 5th Street to recover the stolen property. They say Osborne attacked his wife, Melissa Summers, in an effort to keep her from talking to police.
After placing Osborne under arrest, officers found thousands of dollars worth of items stolen recently, including: $12,000 worth of items taken from a rent house owned by Dan Rawlings, $350 worth of bicycles belonging to Karen Kennan, who allegedly caught Osborne in the process of taking the bikes but he was still able to get away, $2,000 worth of dumpsters and insulated panels belonging to A&J Lawn Mower Repair and $6,000 worth of items taken from a vacant house at 701 5th Street. Officers have yet to determine who owns the vacant home Osborne allegedly targeted.
Corbin Police Ptl. Jeff Hill arrested Osborne and is investigating the case.
Osborne is currently in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
