Police say Corbin couple made meth while children were in apartment
Husband and wife, Joseph and Vanessa Jones were arrested Friday night after police discovered all of the items needed to manufacture methamphetamine inside their apartment along with their three children.
According to Corbin Police Capt. Rob Jones, officers were called to the home of Joseph Jones, 34 and Vanessa Jones, 32 at Creek Side Apartments about 11 p.m. on a child custody dispute.
After speaking to the couple, officers determined they were under the influence of drugs and contacted Knox County social services. The couple permitted police to search the residence for drugs and drug paraphernalia. Patrolman Coy Wilson said officers smelled a strong chemical smell consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine. Sitting on and under a table, officers found the ingredients and items required to manufacture methamphetamine.
Joseph Jones was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree controlled substance endangerment to a child, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, public intoxication – controlled substance, manufacturing methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a methamphetamine precursor.
Vanessa Jones was charged with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree controlled substance endangerment to a child, public intoxication – controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacturing methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a methamphetamine precursor, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
They were each lodged in the Knox County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
Jones said the children have been placed in the care of family members.
The couple was scheduled to be arraigned in Knox District Court Tuesday.
