Police: Corbin man attempted to pass fake $100 bill at two locations

A Corbin man is facing criminal charges after he alleged attempted to pass a counterfeit $100 bill at two different stores Saturday morning.

Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dylan Bunch, 25, following a complaint from a north Corbin business.

Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer, said Deputy Taylor McDaniel was dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:20 a.m. after Bunch had allegedly attempted to pass the bill at one location on West Cumberland Gap Pkwy.

“When Deputy McDaniel arrived at the scene he learned that this individual had apparently left the original business where he was attempting to pass the fake $100 bill and traveled to another business attempting to pass the bill there,” Acciardo stated.

Deputy McDaniel located Bunch at the second business and took him into custody.

In addition to the counterfeit bill, McDaniel found Bunch to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Bunch was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, and first-degree possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine.

He was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center where he is being held on a $5,000 cash bond.

Acciardo said rules regarding counterfeit currency have change and it is only reported to the U.S. Secret Service in cases involving a large amount.

Under Kentucky law first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument is a class C felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of five to ten years.
