Police ask public’s for help to catch vandalism suspects

A broken window on this home, above, is just one of many incidents police site during a wave of vandalism just after Christmas.
Police are investigating a rash of vandalism that occurred overnight Christmas Day and Dec. 26 that resulted in major damage to vehicles and residences all over Laurel County.
According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, there were over 30 cases of reported vandalism during the orgy of destruction. Vandals tossed bricks and landscaping timbers through vehicle windows, rocks, bricks and shovels through home windows and destroyed mailboxes on many roads including: East KY 80, Golden Eagle Drive, Old Union Springs Church Road, Earl Howard Road, Tom Cat Trail, Sibert Lane, KY 830, KY 1189, Robinson Creek Road, Reed Valley and Lily Road.
Authorities are seeking the public’s help to determine the identities of those involved in the vandalism.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputies are looking for a tan van that they think may have been involved in the vandalism incidents, but other vehicles may be involved.
Victims began calling 911 during the night as the incidents occurred.
Anyone with surveillance video, photos, a description of a vehicle or anyone who knows the possible suspects involved is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department at 606-864-6600 or 606-878-7000.
Any tips given to police can remain anonymous
According to Root, some valuable evidence has been recovered from some of the crime scenes so far.
Sgt. Brett Reeves along with Deputy Shawn Boroviak, Deputy Shane Rice and Deputy John Inman all have active cases open and are continuing to follow up on leads related to the vandalism.
Laurel County Sheriff’s Detective Charlie Loomis is also assisting in the investigations.
