Plenty of fun community events on the calendar in coming weeks
Perhaps winter is finally over and spring is in the air, or at least I’m pretty sure that is what a lot of us here in Kentucky are hoping.

With spring comes a variety local events that area residents might want to check out ranging from community yard sales to spring clean-ups and a free Easter Egg hunt.
Here are just a few of those, which have been brought to my attention.
• Corbin’s first Depot Street Market of the season will take place on Saturday, April 1, along Depot Street between Fourth Street and Gordon Hill from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. There will be yard sale items, antiques, flowers, vegetables, trunk yard sales, clothing, vintage items, handmade art or to put another way it will be a “junker’s paradise.”
Vendor spots are free and available on a first come, first served basis. For more information call (606) 528-8860. Depot Street Market events will take place on the first Saturday each month in April, May and June.
• The Williamsburg Community Yard Sales will start on April 1. Other yard sales will take place on Aug. 5 and Sept. 2 at the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Call the Williamsburg Tourism and Convention Center at (606) 549-0530 to reserve your table.
The bad news is that there is typically a small charge to set up for the Williamsburg Community Yard Sale. The good news is that these yard sales are held indoors and won’t be affected by rain, snow, freezing temperatures or excessively hot temperatures any of which are or all of which are possibilities in Kentucky on April 1.
• The City of Williamsburg Spring Clean-Up will take place from April 3-7 and April 10-14 for the Highland Park side of town, and from April 17-21 and April 24-28 for the downtown side of Williamsburg. During this event, residents can request “one and only one” pick-up truck size load per household.
This can be stuff that your garbage man typically won’t accept. The city will accept anything except for tires, batteries, shingles and any type of acids. All furniture must be wrapped in plastic or it will not be picked up.
Williamsburg residents can call (606) 549-6036 when they are ready for their “one and only one” free pick-up.
In other words, this is your chance to clean out your garage and get rid of some of the stuff that your wife has been nagging you to get rid of (not that wives would ever nag…LOL).
• The Williamsburg Easter Egg Hunt will take place at noon on Saturday, April 8, at Briar Creek Park. There will be free hot dogs, an egg hunt and I’m told that the Easter Bunny is planning to take time out of his busy schedule to stop by. This is a free event sponsored by the City of Williamsburg, the Williamsburg Main Street Program and the Williamsburg Tourism Commission.
• A Green Spring Fling, which is a one-night gallery exhibition featuring local artists, will take place in Corbin on April 28. It will feature local artists and will be held at The Pennington event center. For questions or artist submission forms, e-mail maggy@corbinkytourism.com.
With spring upon us, I would encourage local residents to get out and enjoy many of the great things that our communities have to offer whether it’s your local city park, Cumberland Falls State Park, Laurel Lake, the Daniel Boone National Forest or maybe just a stroll down your local main street.
