Parent alleges child was sexually assaulted by college student
Officials with Knox County Public Schools are investigating after a Lynn Camp High School parent made a post to social media Monday, alleging sexual assault against their child.
The post, which has since been deleted or restricted, said “After my son was sexually assaulted by a Union College Student (sic) under the supposive (sic) supervision of Lynn Camp High School they decide today to suspend my son from any future athletics his Senior Year (sic)…” The post went on to say claim that Lynn Camp “didn’t want any “Black Eye” from this.”
In response to the parent’s claim, a statement released Tuesday from the District said “The Knox County Board of Education was made aware of a Facebook post from a Lynn Camp parent on October 29 citing that their child had allegedly been sexually assault by a contracted service provider for our school system.” The statement, released by Frank Shelton, Director of District Communications and System Governance, went on to say “Student related discipline matters, such as the one this Facebook post makes reference to, are subject to the school and district handbook and school leadership. The District is currently investigating this matter. Due to confidentiality issues we are unable to provide further comment at this time.”
Since the post’s allegations involved a Union College student, comments from the college were sought on the matter. However, a reply from Brain Strunk, Union College’s Executive Director of Development, simply said “Union College has no comment on this Facebook post.”
The Mountain Advocate will continue to monitor this case for any further developments.
