Owner tracks down stolen car

Five people were arrested Sunday night in connection with a stolen car that the owner reportedly followed to a north Corbin motel.

Laurel County Sheriff’s Deputy Gilbert Acciardo, the department’s public affairs officer said deputies arrested: Brittany Grubb, 29, of London, Barbara Wilder, 26, of Corbin, Scotty Dewayne Hensley, 36, of Corbin, Ansel Blaine Cornelius, 39, of Williamsburg, and Andrew T. Rose, 33, of Corbin.

Acciardo said the 2003 Pontiac had been reported stolen out of Corbin last week.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, the owner called police and reported that he had followed the vehicle to the motel on Ky. 770 and blocked it in to prevent the individuals from leaving with it while awaiting police.

When deputies arrived, they located several of the suspects in the parking lot and in a motel room where the vehicle was parked.

“In addition, deputies learned that subjects had fled the scene across the street to a business parking lot and also had fled toward a subdivision nearby,” Acciardo said.

Working in conjunction with Kentucky State Police, the five individuals were arrested.

Grubb and Wilder were each charged with theft by unlawful taking of an auto valued at $500 or more but less than $10,000.

Hensley was charged with receiving stolen property of the value of $500 or more but less than $10,000. In addition, he was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies reportedly found the items on his person after discovering him hiding in the shower.

Cornelius and Rose were each charged with receiving stolen property of the value of $500 or more but less than $10,000.

The individuals were all lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.
