Ousted
After destroying Pineville-Bell, 24-1 in the Area Three Minor League Tournament Williamsburg lost two straight games and ended their hopes of advancing to the next level.
Williamsburg lost to Knox County Monday night, 13-0. They had lost to Middlesboro in the winners’ bracket finals Sunday, 8-2.
No details were available for Monday or Sunday’s games.
Williamsburg opened the tournament with a lopsided win over Pineville-Bell Saturday. Williamsburg scored four runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Hagan Hawn started the game off with a single to center field. He stole second before Hunter Taylor popped out.
Jacob Harrison followed with a triple to right field as Hawn crossed the plate for the first Williamsburg run. Tanner Rains drew a walk then Jeremy Purdie hit a double to center field, scoring Harrison and Rains for a 3-0 margin.
Purdie scored on a base hit by Alec Poore.
Pineville-Bell answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Cody Frazier reached on a fielder’s choice. A single by Hannah Trainer allowed Frazier to score and get Pineville-Bell on the scoreboard.
Neither team reached base in the second inning. Poore struck out the side in the bottom of the second.
It was a long inning for Williamsburg in the top of the third, sending 16 batters to the plate. Williamsburg scored 13 runs and took a 17-1 lead in the game.
Hunter Taylor led off the inning with a double. He scored on a base hit by Rains. Poore had a two-run single in the inning while Lucas Combs, Rains and Justin Solis all had doubles in the inning.
Poore shut down Pineville-Bell in the bottom of the inning but, Williamsburg scored seven more runs in the fourth for a 24-1 lead.
