Ossoli Club presents the 66th Annual May Day Festival
The Ossoli Club of Corbin’s 66th Annual May Day Festival will take place on Friday, May 1, at the Corbin High School gymnasium beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Festival involves local children from pre-school through high school in fund raising, community involvement, and creative performance. The theme for this year’s program is "Dancing Through the Garden of Life."
As always, there will be two May Day Queens: the May Day Queen and the May Day Tiny Queen. Tenth grade girls compete for the title of May Day Queen and girls of kindergarten age compete for May Day Tiny Queen. The candidates spend the month of April fund raising throughout the community. You can vote for your favorite candidate by making a donation at the sponsoring merchants around town. Their sponsorship boxes are noted in the accompanying biographies. Votes cast by check should be made payable to the Corbin Ossoli Club. Voting closes at noon on Friday, April 24. The girls who have the most votes in their age competitions will be crowned May Day Queen and May Day Tiny Queen on May 1.
Half the May Day proceeds each year go directly to the classrooms and groups that participate in the May Day program. The other half is used for community improvement projects year-round. Examples include: contributions to building improvements at Corbin High School and St. Camillus Academy, donations to benefit any number of local programs/organizations such as the Corbin Public Library, Corbin’s United Effort, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Science Olympiad Team, Corbin High School Choir, Corbin Middle School Band, Corbin Middle School Academic Team, Corbin Fire Department, American Cancer Society, Lions Club Annual Christmas Basket Fund, Empty Stocking Fund, and Meals on Wheels. In one sense, your vote for one of the May Day Queens is a vote for your community.
