ONLY ONLINE: Three arrested in 48-hour period after returning from Fla. pain clinics
Over a 48-hour period, Williamsburg police arrested three more people for either driving while under the influence or public intoxication, who were returning from trips to Florida pain clinics.
About noon Friday, Williamsburg Public Affairs Officer Shawn Jackson charged Sommer L. McBee, 33, of Columbus, Ohio, with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
Jackson also charged her passenger, Melody M. Robeson, 40, also of Columbus, Ohio, with public intoxication.
About 11:30 a.m., Jackson stopped a 1994 white Honda near the 14-mile marker.
McBee failed all field sobriety tests, and Robeson was too intoxicated to take the tests, Jackson wrote on arrest citations.
Both women told police that they had been to a pain clinic in Florida, Jackson wrote.
McBee told police that she had taken six Oxycodone pills and two Xanax pills. Robeson told police that she had taken six Oxycodone pills and one Xanax pill, according to arrest citations.
McBee pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence during her arraignment Monday morning in Whitley District Court.
Judge Cathy Prewitt sentenced her to 30 days in jail conditionally discharged for two years, to attend DUI classes, suspended her license for 90 days, and fined her $738.
Robeson pleaded guilty to public intoxication Monday and was ordered to pay a $100 fine plus court costs.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Landry Collett and Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason McCowan assisted with the investigation.
Shortly before noon on April 7, Jackson charged Michael Totten, 27, of Nicholasville, with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to register transfer of a motor vehicle, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and third-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Jackson also charged his passenger, Jeffery Rhodus, 23, also of Nicholasville, with public intoxication, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and third-degree possession of a controlled substance.
Both appeared in court Monday afternoon, and had their bonds reduced to partially secured $7,500 bonds, and had April 26 preliminary hearings scheduled in their cases.
Totten was driving a 1999 tan Dodge north on I-75 near the 12-mile marker when the he was pulled over for allegedly driving while under the influence, Jackson wrote on the arrest citation.
Totten and Rhodus allegedly told police that they had been snorting Oxycodone and failed field sobriety tests, Jackson wrote on arrest citations.
Totten told police he was on his way back from a Florida pain clinic, according to his arrest citation. Rhodus’ arrest citation doesn’t indicate whether he went to a Florida pain clinic, just that he was a passenger in the Totten vehicle.
Police found a pill bottle in the vehicle with Oxycodone and Xanax inside, according to arrest citations.
Totten and Rhodus pleaded not guilty during their arraignments Thursday afternoon in Whitley District Court.
Collett also assisted with this investigation.
