ONLY ONLINE: Keavy man arrested a second time for making meth

A Keavy man was arrested last week by police for allegedly making methamphetamine.

Byron Baker, 27, of Lipscomb Road, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine last Thursday after police discovered a meth lab in his home.

According to Laurel County Sheriff Fred Yaden, Deputies Jason Back, Joey Vincini and Sgt. Greg Poynter went to 83 Lipscomb Road to arrest Baker on a warrant for felony theft. When they arrived, they noticed a strong chemical smell coming from the residence and "found some byproduct of a methamphetamine cook." The deputies spoke to Baker and then obtained a search warrant for the home based on statements he made to them.

Located inside the residence was a glass jar that contained a coffee filter and a clear liquid believed to be meth oil – a substance just a step away from finished methamphetamine. Also discovered were numerous empty match books, empty cans of Coleman lantern fuel, Acetone and other chemicals used to make meth.

The Laurel County Division of Public Safety was called in to clean up the remains of the lab. Baker was arrested and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

According to Yaden, this is the second time this year Baker has been arrested for manufacturing methamphetamine.
