One man, one woman seriously injured in wreck near Lynn Camp School
A two-vehicle collision left both drivers injured Friday afternoon, slowing traffic at the intersection of 25E and KY 830 near Lynn Camp High School.
Officials say a mid-80’s model Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by 31-year-old Cody Buell, collided with a late-model Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Russell Sisson, 49 around 4:30 p.m.
According to police, Sisson stated that as he was approached the stop light at the intersection, both drivers appeared to have green lights. Sisson was traveling west toward Corbin, while Buell was attempting to make a left turn onto KY 830. The two collided, sending both cars off the roadway.
Buell was flown from the scene by an Air Methods helicopter, while Sisson was transported to Baptist Regional Medical Center by Knox County EMS.
Officials at the scene said, luckily, the two were alone in their vehicles because the force of the crash could have been deadly to anyone riding with them considering the angle and location of the impact. Witnesses said Buell was partially ejected from her vehicle when emergency crews arrived at the scene.
West Knox Volunteer Fire Department had to extricate Buell from her vehicle before she could be treated. Though there is no official word on the exetent of Buell’s injuries, an unnamed source reported that she had three broken bones in her neck and that her face had several lacerations as a result of the crash.
Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene with traffic control.
