North Corbin man leads deputies on short high-speed chase Tuesday

Edwin Willis is facing a number of charges in connection to a police chase early Tuesday morning.

Kentucky State Police say a north Corbin man led them on a short high-speed chase after seeing them at a residence from which he was allegedly attempting to purchase or deliver drugs Tuesday morning.

Forty-three-year-old Edwin Willis was arrested multiple charges including possession of methamphetamine, marijuana and oxycodone.

According to the arrest citation, police were at the residence on Old Way Road north of London after receiving information that Willis was en route to the residence with either money for methamphetamine that had been purchased or methamphetamine.

When Willis saw the police cars in the driveway, he reportedly attempted to flee.

“After a few miles the subject (Willis) pulled over and was taken into custody,” troopers stated in the citation adding that the Williamsburg Police Department’s K-9 unit was on the scene and the K-9 alerted to the presence of drugs inside the vehicle.

“When the above subject (Willis) was questioned post Miranda he stated that there was Meth inside the safe in the vehicle,” troopers stated adding that inside the safe was approximately nine ounces of crystal methamphetamine.

In addition, troopers recovered a small amount of marijuana, four oxycodone pills and a set of digital scales.

Willis was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – second or greater offense, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – opiates, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, controlled substance prescription not in original container, speeding – 15 mph over the limit and failure to produce insurance card.

Willis is being held without bond in the Laurel County Correctional Facility.
