Whitley County senior Tilmon Jackson hits 4 RBI’s in win.
Whitley County senior Tilmon Jackson pounded out two hits and four RBI’s to lead the Colonels to a 13-1 win over the Barbourville Tigers Wednesday in Barbourville.
Jordan Crusenberry got the win on the mound for the Colonels as the sophomore tossed a no-hitter and struck out six batters.
Whitley County (17-6) grabbed the early lead and never looked back. Alex Rose started the run for the Colonels when he walked to lead off the game. Crusenberry followed with a hit down the third base line as Rose stopped at third.
Jackson hit a single to right field as Rose scored the first run of the game. Crusenberry followed with a score on the play for a 2-0 lead.
Jackson scored on a sacrifice ground out to short and the Colonels had a 3-0 lead.
Barbourville got one run back in the bottom of the first to close within 3-1, but the Colonels posted two runs in the top of the second for a commanding 5-1 lead.
Luke Woods led off the inning with a bunt to the third base side of the field. Woods ended at third on the play then scored on a ground out to shortstop by Crisologo.
Rose hit into an error as the right fielder (Matthew Dixon) made an error on the play. Jackson eventually drove Rose him on an error by the Tigers second baseman for the 5-1 margin.
Crusenberry added a run in the top of the fourth for a 6-1 lead then the Colonels scored seven runs in the sixth to put the game away by the run-rule.
The Colonels was scheduled to play North Laurel today at Lexington’s Whitaker Park. They will host Rockcastle County Friday before taking on Berea at home Monday.
