NO CONTEST
It was one of the best games of the season for the young Lady Jackets of Williamsburg Friday night. Coach Jim Rains’ team rolled past the Barbourville Lady Tigers, 58-28.
The teams had met twice, once in the Bowman Classic at Williamsburg with the Lady Jackets winning, 37-35, then again in the All “A” Region where the Lady Jackets won 45-41.
Although the third meeting was at Barbourville, the Lady Jackets rolled to the 30-point win. Coach Jim Rains felt his team played one of its best games.
The Lady Jackets eased out to a 19-10 lead and led 28-15 at the half. Junior Shawnda Lovett had 16 points while sophomore Kat Hoffman tossed in 10 points to lead the winners.
Williamsburg outscored the Lady Tigers, 9-5 in the third quarter and led 37-20 heading into the final eight minutes. Then Williamsburg turned it up a notch and outscored Barbourville, 21-8.
“Things were pretty even until late in the game and we went on a 17-2 run,” said Rains.
The Lady Jackets were scheduled to meet Jellico Tuesday night. The game with Harlan has been cancelled. Williamsburg will be on the road Thursday night to play the South Laurel Lady Cardinals.
