 The Class A District 5 champion Williamsburg Yellow Jackets improved their record to 7-2 Friday night after defeating rival Lynn Camp at Mitchell-Howard Field.

It was senior night at Lynn Camp High School, and before the evening’s action got underway the Wildcats honored their three senior players – running back Jordan Bledsoe, lineman Jonah Sparks, and lineman Christian Woolum.

Lynn Camp started the game with an impressive 15-play drive that ended with sophomore Tommy Hatfield’s 9-yard run for a touchdown with 3:40 left in the opening quarter.  Andrew Mills’ extra point attempt was good, putting the Wildcats up 7-0.
Williamsburg responded on their first drive when quarterback Dalton Sizemore connected with Logan Hamblin in the end zone for a touchdown with :17 remaining in the first quarter.  Skyler Griffith ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Yellow Jackets the 8-7 lead.

Williamsburg’s first possession of the second quarter ended the same way, only this time it was freshman Jefferson Patrick with an 18-yard touchdown run at 9:39.  Sizemore found Hamblin in the end zone again for the successful two-point conversion, making it 16-7 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

The Wildcats (0-8) turned the ball over on downs with their next possession.  The ensuing Yellow Jacket drive nearly ended with another touchdown, but Wildcat junior Jessie Keith knocked down a pass from Sizemore to Hamblin, preventing the score, and forcing Williamsburg to turnover the ball on downs.

The Wildcats were unable to capitalize, however, and were forced to punt.  The punt was blocked, and Williamsburg recovered on the Lynn Camp 22-yard-line.  Two plays later Devan Robinson ran in a touchdown from six yards out, extending the Yellow Jacket lead with 1:02 left before intermission. Jefferson Patrick ran in the two-point conversion, making the score 24-7.

It was Robinson’s first touchdown as a Yellow Jacket. "Devan played some

fullback for us last week against Berea, we had him out there again against

Lynn Camp, and he was able to get a touchdown for us," Williamsburg Coach Jerry Herron said.

Williamsburg got the ball back to begin the second half.  Their first drive took them down to the Wildcat 15-yard-line, where Jordan Bledsoe picked off Dalton Sizemore in the end zone.

  
Once again, Lynn Camp was unable to turn a great defensive play into a scoring drive as they went three-and-out.  The first play from scrimmage for the Yellow Jackets resulted in another touchdown when Sizemore threw to Griffith, who took it 38 yards to the house with 8:01 left in the third.  The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, making the score 30-7.

The following Wildcat possession ended with an interception by Chase Lowrie, which led to yet another score for Williamsburg.  This time it was freshman Corey Shelton who caught a pass in the end zone from Sizemore at 4:16.  The two-point conversion was once again unsuccessful, leaving the Jackets ahead 36-7.

Lynn Camp was desperate to get some offense going, but another three-and-out led to another Williamsburg touchdown when Sizemore and Hamblin hooked up for another score at the 1:23 mark. Williamsburg held a huge 42-7 at that point.

The Wildcats continued to fight until the final whistle, but were unable to find their way into the end zone again.  The last scoring play of the game saw Hamblin once again taking it across the goal line for the Yellow Jackets with 3:16 in the game.  For the third straight time in the half, the Jackets failed to convert their extra point try, leaving the district champions with a 41-point victory, 48-7.

Herron said the key factors in the win over Lynn Camp were the play of  “guys like Skyler Griffith and Logan Hamblin catching the ball well.”

“Corey Shelton, who is coming off an injury, has been playing well also,” added Herron.

Williamsburg will play host to Oliver Springs, TN to finish out the regular season this Friday night, while Lynn Camp will be on the road facing Middlesboro.  Both games are scheduled for kickoff at 7:30.

“We expect a tough game from Oliver Springs,” Herron said. “They are a strong team who likes to spread the field and run the option.”

Oliver Springs comes in with a 5-4 record including a 42-34 win over Oneida, a team the Jackets lost to earlier in the season.
