NIBROC 2021 scheduled for Aug. 11-14

After NIBROC 2020 was canceled because of the COVID–19 pandemic, August will once again mean NIBROC time in Corbin.

The festival in downtown Corbin is slated for Wednesday, Aug. 11, through Saturday, 14.

Southern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Director Bruce Carpenter said the carnival will be returning to Depot Street beginning Wednesday night.

The vendors will, once again, be on Main Street.

“We have about 30 vendors already registered, which is normal for this time,” Carpenter said adding that he expects a number of last-minute applications to arrive to fill up Main Street.

Carpenter said he is still working on the musical entertainment for the festival.

Two groups have been confirmed.

Local group County Wide will take the main stage on Saturday.

In 2018, the group used its performance at NIBROC as the setting to shoot a music video.

Rhythm City Groove, featuring Corbin natives Chris McDaniel and Tony Hammons, will take to the stage Friday night.

McDaniel graduated from Corbin High School in 1979, while Hammons is a member of the class of 1980.

Hammons went on to play with Montgomery Gentry.

The band, as it names implies, features a variety of Rhythm and Blues music.

Other events on the schedule include:

• The beach volleyball tournament will take place at the city’s volleyball court on Gordon Street.
• Tomahawks will host the cornhole tournament beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
• The three-on-three basketball tournament
• The NIBROC Parade will be at 7 p.m. Thursday along Kentucky Ave.
• The Appalachian Photographic Society will host the NIBROC Photo Contest.

Viewing of entries and winners will be available at You, Me, Coffee and Tea on Main Street on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Carpenter said additional entertainment will be announced.
