New wave of downtown Corbin code violations targeted
Corbin Building Inspector Frank Burke has sent out five more notices requesting area property owners deal with various maintenance issues.
Burke said the letters went out to Robert Moore for an old sign on the building at 314 Main Street, Jackson Auto Repair and Johnny’s Muffler for old parking lights, Edward and Ruth Scalf for high grass at 905 S. Kentucky Ave. and garage door issues at the home at 1003 Kentucky Street, owned by Eloise Davis.
Burke said he has spoken with all of the property owners except the Scalfs. Those he has spoken with have agreed to take corrective action or have already done so.
"Overall it is going very well," Burke said of the code enforcement efforts that began in February. "When we sent out of the first round of notices, people were pretty irate. Now, people seem willing to cooperate."
Burke said previously, that his plan has been to concentrate on the downtown area and then spiral outward.
As the code enforcement effort has continued, Burke said he is receiving more help from the community.
"People are becoming more aware," Burke said. "I have people calling asking questions about possible issues with their property and neighbors are calling concerning potential violations."
