Nevisdale Resource Center, Patterson Creek Fire Department team up to help area children
Thanks to an event organized by the Nevisdale Resource Center and Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department, more than 100 less fortunate children got a free coat, toys and a fruit bag among other items during a giveaway last month, which was held at the fire department.

Heather Paul, Lena Paul, Wilma Lawson and Connie Davis are among the ladies credited with organizing the recent Nevisdale Resource Center and Patterson Creek Volunteer Fire Department giveaway that benefited more than 100 area children in need.
“We appreciated everyone, who donated to us,” said Lena Paul, one of the organizers of the event. “We did real good this year with it. This year is our biggest year.”
Paul said the giveaway started about four or five years ago, and numerous individuals and groups donated to make the giveaway possible, including all of the community churches, an official with Dollar General, Cash Express and numerous drug stores.
She estimated that there were probably 20-25 people, who pitched in making it a real community effort.
Paul said that the children come all around the community in addition to Williamsburg, Jellico and other places.
Mt Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church assisted with the event distributing 100 backpacks that the Georgia Baptist Association brought them, which were filled with school supplies, toys, clothes, food and other necessities, said Mt. Pisgah’s deacon Jason Collins.
The donations were enough to get 125 coats and put together 120 fruit bags for the children.
