Music lineup announced for Friday and Saturday at NIBROC
The music lineup for the 66th annual NIBROC Festival is taking shape as Pistol Whip, River Rising, County Wide and up and coming country singer Billy Brown have been signed to play the event which begins Aug. 9.
The main stage will again be located in the lot across Main Street from Sanders Park.
Friday night, Aug. 10 will feature Pistol Whip at 7 p.m. followed by Billy Brown at 9.
River Rising will open the show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, followed by County Wide at 9 p.m.
“They will be bringing people from Nashville to shoot a video during the show,” Chamber of Commerce Director Bruce Carpenter said of County Wide.
Brown, who is based out of the Cincinnati, Ohio area, incorporates classic rock into his country music.
Brown has played all types of venues from local bars to NASCAR races, festivals, Toby Keith bars and even the Hard Rock Café.
County Wide got its start in Southeast Kentucky. The band has taken its own version of old/new country, southern rock, blues and alternative to Nashville, securing a record deal with SMG Records earlier this year.
River Rising incorporates elements of rock, country, gospel and jazz to create its own unique sounds that appeals to music enthusiasts of all ages and genres.
The band’s show features a combination of covers of familiar tunes with new an interesting arrangements, along with its own original music.
All off it is presented with an enthusiasm that captivates the audience.
Pistol Whip is a London-based band featuring a mix of rock and country.
The band most recently played at Corbin’s Independence Day event at The Arena, and has also played Thursday Night Live in London.
“The lineup offers something for everyone,” Carpenter said.
“I’m still working on Thursday, which I haven’t got nailed down yet,” he added.
There will also be a stage set up at NIBROC featuring local musical entertainment Thursday though Saturday.
Vendors will again be located on Main Street. After several of the Main Street business owners expressed their concerns about the decision to relocate the festival back to Main Street, an agreement was reached to have the vendors set up in the middle of the street to keep the storefronts visible to the crowd.
In addition, this will permit the businesses to use the sidewalks in front of the stores to hold “sidewalk sales.”
Carpenter said 65 vendors, featuring food, crafts and other items, were set up in 2017.
“We may, right now, be just a little bit ahead of that,” Carpenter said explaining that several more applications have recently arrived.
Paradise Amusements will again be providing the carnival rides.
The carnival crews will begin setting up the rides and vendors will begin setting up their booths Wednesday morning with the carnival opening at 6 p.m.
The festival will be open at noon Thursday, Friday and Saturday and remaining open until 10 or 11:30 p.m.
“A lot of times closing is dictated by the crowd,” Carpenter said.
Visitors may purchase armbands each night to ride all of the rides that night for one price. The armbands will be $10 Wednesday and $20 Thursday through Saturday.
The annual parade will be one of the highlights Thursday.
Carpenter said lineup for the parade, which will run down Kentucky Ave., will begin at 6 p.m. on Master Street.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m.

Carpenter said beer sales will be returning to NIBROC and will again be set up at Sanders Park. Beer will not be permitted outside of the park.
The beach volleyball tournament will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Gordon and Depot Street behind The News Journal. Four and six-person team tournaments are scheduled. The four-person tournament will include advanced and experienced divisions. The six-person tournament will include advanced, experienced and recreational divisions.
Competition will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday.
The entry deadline is noon on August 8.
The three-on-three basketball tournament will begin at noon Saturday at the Princess Vermillion McBurney Recreation Center on Barbourville Street.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. the day of the tournament.
The News Journal Cornhole Tournament will begin at 6 p.m. Friday along Depot Street near the main festival.
The double-elimination tournament features two-person teams.
In the event of inclement weather, the tournament will be moved to the McBurney Center.
NIBROC will be held Aug. 9-11 in downtown Corbin.
