MOVING ON

The Whitley County Colonels have split two games in the 24th Annual Cumberland Falls Invitational. The Colonels saw North Laurel come from behind and pull the upset Monday night, 44-43. However, they were able to rebound from the loss and whip the Pigeon Forge Tigers, 66-51 in the consolation bracket Tuesday.
“Pigeon Forge is a very god team,” said Whitley County Coach Chris Baker. “I think their coach is doing a very good job teaching that pro set. It’s a tough offense to play against.”
“I am really pleased with this win tonight,” added Baker. “They are a very resilient team and never give up. They keep coming at you.”
“They are fearless. They don’t play with any fear. They don’t care about making mistakes, missing shots. They just go out there and play,” Baker said.
Both teams got off to a slow start, but it was Whitley County gaining steam throughout the first half. An Aaron Petrey three-point gave the Colonels the lead for good, 5-3. Donnie Butcher then hit the first of his four 3-pointers as he led the Colonels with a game-high 25 points.
The Colonels quickly stretched the lead to eight points (18-10) by the end of the first period.
