Movie, art events happening in Downtown Corbin Saturday

Whether you are a fan of the visual arts or seeking to add an original piece of art for your home or other personal space, downtown Corbin may have what you are looking for Saturday.

The Corbin Arts and Literary League will be hosting, “Art in the Park” at NIBROC Park.

Artists from all over the state and the area will be set up in the park offering items for sale.

Corbin Tourism Director Maggy Kriebel said artists will include painters, sculptors, woodworkers and doll makers.

“There will be 20 to 25 vendors offering items,” Kriebel said.

The event is scheduled for 3-8 p.m.

The evening will conclude with Corbin Tourism’s second Movies in the Park event.

Kriebel said the event at Sanders Park on Main Street will featured the 2016 animated movie, “Sing.”

The movie tells the story of a singing competition held at a theater in a city of humanoid animals.

Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Seth McFarlane are among the actors who lend their voices.

“It starts getting dark this time of year around 9:15 to so we will start the movie at about 9:30,” Kriebel said.

The running time of the movie is 1 hour, 46 minutes.

The event is free and open to the public.

Patrons are welcome and encouraged to bring their seats, drinks and snacks.

“We had people who brought pizza at the May movie,” Kriebel said.

Cumberland Valley National Bank will be providing free kettle corn and State Farm Agent Michael Jones will be giving out free water.

“This is a family event, so alcohol is prohibited,” Kriebel said.

Kriebel said approximately 150 people attended the May movie, which was the inaugural event.

“This is kind of a trial year for us. If it goes well, we may look at doing three movies next year,” Kriebel said.
