Motorcycle chase from Corbin to Mt. Vernon leads to numerous charges
A high-speed chase involving a motorcycle and a Kentucky State Police trooper that began in Whitley County Sunday has the rider facing multiple charges.
Devan Whitfield, 28, was arrested after leading troopers on a 30-mile chase north on Interstate 75 during which he reportedly reached speeds in excess of 130 mph as he weaved through traffic while allegedly under the influence.
Trooper Jeremy Elliotte stated in the arrest citation that he attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing Whitfield speeding and driving recklessly near exit 25 at approximately 11:10 p.m.
However, Whitfield would not stop and attempted to elude law enforcement.
The chase ended at exit 59 in Mt. Vernon when Whitfield wrecked.
However, Elliotte stated that Whitfield continued to resist as law enforcement attempted to secure him in handcuffs.
Whitfield was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, first-degree wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, speeding – 26 mph or greater over the limit, reckless driving, improper use of left lane, driving under the influence and numerous other traffic offenses.
In addition, Whitfield was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registry and was served with an outstanding non-criminal warrant out of Idaho.
Whitfield is being held without bond in the Whitley County Detention Center.
