Mother of child left at McDonald’s charged with trafficking methamphetamine
The mother of the 4-year-old left at McDonald’s in Corbin last week had reportedly give custody of the boy to his grandmother as she was not in a position to properly care for him.
The mother, whom Corbin Police say is Victoria Day, 22, Corbin, was one of two people arrested Tuesday for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine and she reportedly had a 2-year-old with her at the time.
According to Major Rob Jones, the department’s public affairs officer, a confidential informant working with the police purchased methamphetamine from Day and Joshua Walters, 24, of Artemus. The couple was arrested Tuesday evening in the parking lot of Walgreens at the intersection of U.S. 25 and Ky. 26.
“Walters entered into the Walgreen’s Store and had concealed $39.99 dollars worth of merchandise and left the store without paying when officers arrested him for the trafficking charges,” Jones stated.
Officers recovered an unspecified amount of methamphetamine and marijuana and Suboxone pills at the time of the arrest.
The 2-year-old, whom Jones identified as a family member of Day was taken into protective custody by social services.
Day was charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, public intoxication – controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a minor.
Walters was charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, shoplifting, controlled substance prescription not in proper container and endangering the welfare of a minor. In addition, Walters had a bench warrant.
Day is being held in the Whitley County Detention Center on a $20,000 cash bond and must wear an ankle bracelet monitor if she is released.
Walters is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.
Both are scheduled to appear in Whitley District Court at 1 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing to determine if there is probable cause to present the case to a Whitley County Grand Jury.
The 4-year-old’s grandmother, Joanne Lowe, 62, who was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after he was found wandering alone at the restaurant on U.S. 25W, is also scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
Police were called to the scene when restaurant employees noticed the boy appeared be be lost.
Ralph Rogers, pastor at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Corbin, where Lowe and the child attend services, said it was a mistake that occurred when another child with Lowe got injured. In all of the confusion, the child was left behind.
The charge is a misdemeanor, carrying a potential sentence of up to one year in jail.

Oh my Lord!!!! You have got to be kidding me! This whole family is nuts! First the 62 yr old JoAnne Knuckles Lowe leaves her custodial grandchild alone at a McDonalds last week. He was discovered at about 4PM but neither JoAnne Knuckles Lowe nor her daughter in law even knew he was missing until the daughter in law informed the police at 7:30PM that she had seen his picture on the news station and called them 3 1/2 hours after the child had been left alone in McDonalds to identify him. A whole 3 1/2 hours later!!!! Precious moment that can mean the life or death of a child!!! The biological mother of the 4 yr old left at McDonalds, Victoria Day, not only had one child she gave away ( full custody) to JoAnne Knuckles Lowe but then proceeds to have yet a second child..the 2yr old found in the car with Day and Walters on Tuesday evening at Walgreen’s.
I don’t know who’s doing this reporting but this article states that another child with JoAnne Knucles Lowe and her daughter in law at McDonalds last week was “INJURED and in all the confusion the child (referencing the 4 yr old) was left behind. Well, I guess you watched a completely different video of Lowe and her daughter in law them leaving he McDonalds last week because there was ONLY 1 (ONE) other child with them and it wasn’t injured. That plus the fact that it was reported by Major Jones that Lowe, the daughter in law and the child left McDonald’s in the SAME car. How could they not tell that the 4yr old was not with them. Just makes NO SENSE at all. Because it’s the LAW that a child has to be in a car seat or buckled into the car with a seat belt.
As for Pastor Ralph Rogers…Pastor at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Corbin…well, his judgement is far from any rational person. Because it seems that yesterday…(Thursday Feb. 28,2013) JoAnne Knuckles Lowe was given the “BLESSING” of Pastor Ralph Rogers to escort a group of “CHILDREN” to Gatlinburg, Tennessee after she was charged with “Endangering the welfare of a Minor Child” just last week. What the heck was he thinking about???? I suppose he would let a pedophile escort a group of children somewhere. I’m serious…common sense in not a common thing anymore. How could he possibly endanger the children on this trip by letting her be one of the chaperones??? I guess if she loses one of them it will just be chalked up to confusion.
I hope the judicial system in Whitely District Court works and she is sentenced to the full one year in jail that this charge carries. This is all just plain nonsense!!!!! One can only hope that the District Court Judge sees through all these conflicting stories, refuses her plea at her arraignment on Tuesday (3/5/2013) and a jury trail is ordered.
