Most first round games in baseball/softball regional tournaments postponed
(Story by Trevor Sherman)
The 2022 13th Region baseball and softball tournaments were scheduled to get underway Monday, but most games had to be postponed due to wet field conditions after a full day of steady rainfall.
The only teams who managed to get their game in on Monday were the Whitley County Colonels and the Jackson County Generals. The Colonels defeated Jackson County 4-2, improving to 27-10 on the year and advancing to the regional semis, where they will face the winners of Middlesboro and Barbourville at South Laurel High School.
The Corbin Redhounds’ contest at Knox Central got pushed back to Tuesday, and a final score was not available by press time. Should the Hounds advance, they will play the winners of Clay County and Harlan, also at South Laurel High School.
In the softball bracket, Corbin faced off against Lynn Camp to determine who would go on to play the winner of Middlesboro versus Clay County in the tournament semifinals.
The bottom half of the brackets featured Knox Central versus Bell County and North Laurel versus South Laurel in opening round action.
All softball games are being contested at Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn.

Update: Both Corbin teams were victorious in first round regional tournament action Tuesday. The baseball Hounds improved to 24-12 with a 9-2 win over Knox Central. Meanwhile, the softball Hounds improved to 18-13 after defeating Lynn Camp, 13-3.
