Moore Hill man eludes police during recent chase

Corbin Police are still searching for a Moore Hill man who ran just before being arrested during a routine traffic stop Friday afternoon.
Officer Robbie Hodge said Donald Denton was the passenger in a vehicle he stopped at about 3:58 p.m. Friday just across the CSX railroad tracks on Hamlin Street. He stopped the car after receiving a tip from another motorist that Denton was wanted in Indiana on larceny charges.
“Somebody just drove up and told me that guy’s got a warrant and gave me his name,” Hodge said. “I ran the tags [on the car] and confirmed it that way. I don’t have a clue who the person was.”
Hodge said Denton was sitting calmly in the passenger seat when he got him out to place him under arrest. Then, unexpectedly, he ran toward the CSX rail yards and police quickly pursued.
“We chased him for probably three hours. It was the longest foot pursuit I’ve probably ever been in,” Hodge said. “I got calls from people who said they saw him, but we never caught him. I don’t have a clue where he is. I’d like to know.”
Warrants for Denton’s arrest were sought locally. If caught, Hodge said he will be charged with second-degree fleeing and evading police and resisting arrest.
At the time of the traffic stop, Hodge said Denton was coming home from work. He added he thinks he is or was an employee of Shoney’s.
Denton is described as being 6-1, 190 lbs. with long brown hair in the back and bald on top. He is in his mid-30s.
