MIDWAY BOUND

Lyndsay Champlin, a senior at Corbin High School, has signed with Midway College. The three-year starter for the Lady Redhounds led Corbin to two regional tournaments and enjoyed a 73-44 record in her four years of high school.
Champlin actually began playing on the varsity as an eighth grader.
Midway College Coach Karley Mohler said, “Lyndsay will bring a good solid effort every day. She will do well in the classroom and succeed academically at Midway.”
“She definitely has not reached her full potential yet,” Mohler said. “She has an athletic physique and will put on muscle and get a lot quicker, stronger and better.”
“She will have to get stronger and will have to work on her speed,” said Mohler. “The speed of the college game gets a lot quicker and that’s the biggest adjustment for incoming freshman.”
“I’m very proud of Lyndsay for going on to play college ball,” said Corbin Coach Jennifer Parsons. “I think she is a player that has not peaked and will go on to be a lot better player in college.”
“I think she will go and continue to improve,” said Parsons. “She has been a great player for us. She has been a varsity player for five years and started for three of those years.”
“She has been the second or third leading scorer for each of the past two years,” said Parsons. “She is one of those players you can’t replace. She does a lot for us on and off the floor.”
Parsons agrees that Champlin will have some adjustments to make. “She has the quickness to play at that level. She looks to penetrate a lot in the high school but she will have to that against much bigger players than she is used to in high school.”
“I don’t think she will be looked on to be as much of a spot shooter,” said Parsons. “She didn’t do that as much as she could have in high school. But, she is capable of penetrating and finishing around the basket.”
Midway College finished last season with a 2-26 mark. The Eagles play in the KIAC with Alice Lloyd, Asbury College, Berea College, Indiana University Southeast and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
