Mid Springs GED center has first graduate from program

Thursday afternoon marked a milestone for a local community GED program and one Whitley County resident.

Lisa Henson, who dropped out of high school in 2010 when she was three months short of graduating, received her GED from the Mid Springs branch of Tri-County Skills U.

The Mid Springs branch has served 15 students since it first opened in the spring of 2017, but Henson is to the first person to graduate from the program at the Mid Springs Community Center.

She said she is relieved to have her GED degree under her belt.

GED Supervisor Keith Barnett and volunteers Martha Provost and Christine Cooper from Cornerstone Christian Church tutored Henson through the program.

Provost noted that the community program is important because a lot of people don’t have transportation that live in the Mid Springs area.

Others noted that even those with transportation in the impoverished area can’t always afford gas money to go to a bigger GED center for classes.
