Mayes gets 15-year prison sentence in child sexual abuse case
Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced Wednesday that David Mayes, 30, was sentenced in Whitley County Circuit Court for charges of child sexual abuse.
In July, Mayes pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal abuse (Class C Felony), two counts of first-degree rape (Class A Felony), one count of second-degree sodomy (Class B Felony), and one count of first-degree sexual abuse (Class D Felony).
On Oct. 24, 2022, Judge Paul Winchester sentenced Mayes to 15 years in prison. As part of the sentence, Mayes will be listed on the lifetime sex offender registry, undergo a post incarceration period of conditional discharge, and a 10-year protective order will be put in place for the victims.
Kentucky State Police investigated the case. Executive Director of the Special Prosecutions Unit, Rewa Zakharia, prosecuted the case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
