Matthew Stepek
Matthew Stepek, age 62, of Corbin passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Baptist Health in Corbin.
Born in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late John and Sue Stepek of Chicago, IL. He was a retired veteran of US Army Aviation and member of Redemption Life Center in London, KY. He was stationed in Hawaii then served full time with the Florida National Guard, where he lived with his family before retiring to Corbin.
During his 20 years of service, Matt served in S. Korea and the Philippines. He also saw duty in numerous natural disasters including wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and many hurricanes, most notably Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane Floyd. In addition he was part of the task force that helped locate remains of the Space Shuttle Challenger off the coast of Florida.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Terri L. Stepek; his son, Nathan and wife Rachel Stepek of Corbin, KY; his daughter, Rachael and husband Richard Turner of Williamston, SC, and five grandchildren, Thomas Turner and Tyler Turner of SC, and Scarlett Stepek, Mason Dean Stepek, and Luke Moss Stepek of Corbin, KY. In addition, he is survived by two brothers-in-law, James E. Joplin, Jr. and wife Virginia as well as Steven H. Joplin and wife Cindy; and four siblings, Mark Stepek and wife Karen, Cathy Thomas and husband William, Mary Beth Kenealy and husband Jerry, and Linda Finch and husband Jim. Matt and Terri were blessed with numerous nieces and nephews, as well.
At this time, no services are planned. Family and friends who wish, may donate to the Redemption Life Center Renovation fund in Matt’s memory at 72 Esquire Lane, London, KY 40741.
