Man thrown from vehicle in crash; three others injured

A Southern Whitley County man was ejected from his vehicle, which then caught on fire during a two-vehicle crash Monday afternoon near Emlyn.
About 2:20 p.m., Adam McKiddy of Lot Mud Creek Road was traveling north on US25W in a 2002 Dodge Dakota pick-up truck when an unknown vehicle pulled from a driveway into his lane of travel, according to a Whitley County Sheriff’s Department press release.
McKiddy swerved into the southbound lane of travel to avoid a crash with this vehicle.
Once in the southbound lane, McKiddy struck a 1996 Ford Mustang driven by Elizabeth Rainwater of Buck Creek Road.
Rainwater couldn’t avoid the collision and McKiddy struck her head on, according to the release.
Upon impact, McKiddy was ejected from his vehicle, which caught on fire.
McKiddy told officials that his seatbelt did not work properly nor did his door latch correctly.
Whitley County EMS transported McKiddy, Rainwater and her passengers Tammy Podsiad of Williamsburg and a juvenile to Jellico Community Hospital for treatment.
McKiddy was cited for no insurance. Sheriff’s Capt. Millard Root investigated the crash and was assisted at the scene by members of the Emlyn Volunteer Fire Department, Whitley County EMS and Constable Dorman Patrick Jr.
