Man sought by police for theft of items from local barn

The Whitley County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the publics help in locating a suspect, who is allegedly responsible for taking about $10,000 worth of items from a Whitley County barn Wednesday morning.

The suspect, Billy G. Miller, 23, of Strunk, was positively identified by the victim and warrants have been issued for his arrest, according to Whitley County Sheriff Colan Harrell.

Miller is a 5’8" white male weighing about 115 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department at 549-6006 during regular business hours and at 549-6017 after hours.

About 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Miller allegedly broke into a Ryan’s Creek barn belonging to Andy Meadors, and took several articles of value totaling about $10,000, Harrell said.

Shortly after the theft, Meadors observed the stolen items in the back of an old pickup truck traveling on Ky. 92W.

He followed the vehicle and got the driver to stop momentarily, which was long enough to see the driver and take down the license plate number, Harrell noted.

Meadors asked the driver to get out of the truck, but he didn’t comply and sped away with Meadors behind him. Meadors then contacted the Whitley County Sheriff’s office.

Harrell and members of his department accompanied Meadors to the address listed in connection with the license plate and along the way recovered stolen items, which had apparently fallen out of the bed of the pick-up truck.

McCreary County Sheriff Gus Skinner met Whitley County deputies at Miller’s Strunk residence and assisted with the investigation.

The next day, Meadors recovered several of the stolen items through use of an informant and Miller was positively identified by the victim, Harrell added.
