Knox County Sheriff’s deputies have video of a masked burglar leaving Cope’s Market on Old Barbourville Hwy. with his duffle bag of stolen guns and cigarettes early Thursday morning.
Sheriff John Pickard says in addition to recovering 99 percent of the stolen items when they arrested 28-year-old Kevin Lawson of Corbin in connection with the crime Thursday evening, they found a “selfie” of Lawson wearing the mask on his cell phone.
Pickard added that gloves Lawson had worn during the burglary to avoid leaving finger prints were found in a neighbor’s yard.
Deputies were called to the scene at the intersection of Old Barbourville Hwy. and Ky. 830 just after 6 a.m. Thursday. Store employees who arrived to open the store for business found the burglary scene.
Pickard stated the burglary occurred sometime after 2 a.m.
Lawson was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center where he is being held without bond. No court date has been scheduled.
