Man arrested for stalking teen
A Corbin man remains in jail after police say he was caught staring at a 14-year-old girl through the bedroom window of her Ruggles Street home early Sunday morning, and the girl’s mother claims he has been a menace to the family for years.
Sixty-five year old Ron Rose, a resident of nearby Barbourville Street, was arrested and charged with first-degree stalking in the wake of the incident.
Corbin Police were called to the residence at about 1:00 a.m. Sunday and discovered Rose outside the home with his pants down, allegedly masturbating.
Corbin Police Capt. Tim Helton, who is investigating the case, said Rose admitted to the crime in a post-arrest interview.
“He admitted to a lot of different things that are still going to have to be investigated,” Helton said. “There’s definitely more to look into.”
According to the girl’s mother, and court records, Rose has a history with the family. He was arrested in 2001 and charged with criminal trespassing when he was allegedly found in the girl’s room late at night after having crept in through a window. He left quickly after being noticed.
“He has been a problem for us for years,” the teen’s mother said. She did not want to be identified. “We had thought it was all over, but apparently it’s not. Now we are just trying to get him kept in jail.”
The victim’s father noticed Rose in the family’s backyard and asked him to leave, but he would not. Police were then called.
Rose was arraigned in Knox District Court Monday where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. He remains in jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.
The girls mother said her daughter is “scared” of Rose and has never been to his home nor has any contact with him. She added she does not know why Rose appears to be fixated with her.
“He lives right there in kid central,” she said. “I think he absolutely needs to go to jail or a psychiatric facility where he can’t get out. I think he’s dangerous and, even though he’s never touched my daughter, it’s just a matter of time before he hurts some child if he hasn’t already.”
Helton said he would discuss with Commonwealth’s Attorney Danny Evans the possibility of more charges against Rose when the case is presented to a grand jury.
Earlier this year Rose was the plaintiff in a lawsuit, filed in Whitley Circuit Court, challenging the residency of mayoral candidate Randy Smith. Smith dropped out of the primary election campaign before the case went to trial.
In the late 1990s, Rose also operated a computer and software business on South Main Street in Corbin. He was accused by one software manufacturer of selling bootleg operating systems and shortly thereafter, closed down the business.
