Mahan named new CHS softball head coach
An official announcement was made Wednesday afternoon that Jake Mahan would be replacing Christ Hart as the new head coach of the Corbin High School softball program.
Graduating from Corbin in 2005, Mahan was a standout on the baseball diamond as a shortstop and pitcher, playing for the Redhounds from eighth grade through his senior year. After high school, the former All-Star went on to start for four years at Georgetown as a second baseman. He was brought on as an assistant coach there for one year after his playing days were over, and he served as an assistant at Corbin for a year after returning home.
Mahan has taught freshman World History at CHS for the past four years.
"Coach Hart has really set me up for success as the new head coach of Corbin softball," Mahan said. "Because of all that he was able to accomplish during his time leading the program, I feel like this will be an easy transition for me."
"I just want to take what he has done and build on that. I want to make sure that we build our student-athletes into better students, and better athletes. When these girls leave here, I want everyone to know that they came from Corbin. There are certain expectations that come along with playing here, and we will work hard in the offseason to make sure that those expectations will be met. I am excited to get started."
