Lynn Camp holds off Jackets
The Lynn Camp Wildcats held off the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets Tuesday night to win on the road, 77-73.
The win was Lynn Camp’s sixth in a row dating back to December 11 when the streak started against Buckhorn.
The Wildcats (6-3) followed that with a win at Berea then won three games in the Bowman Classic.
However, it was the Big Orange of Williamsburg grabbing the early lead in the game behind the scoring of senior John McRay. McRay tossed in 12 of the 23 points as Williamsburg led at the first stop, 23-19.
Lynn Camp started the second quarter with a 7-0 run and took a 26-23 lead before the Jackets got on the scoreboard in the second period.
The lead changed hands four times in the final three minutes of the second quarter before Kyle French hit two free throws with :37 left in the half for a 32-31 lead. Travis Reeves, the team’s leading scorer added a free throw to close out the first half with Lynn Camp leading, 33-31.
Williamsburg took an early lead in the third quarter when Tyler Ayers and Kevin Caddel hit back to back three pointers for the Yellow Jackets.
Then it was back to back baskets by Chris Smith pushing the Wildcats back on top.
Again the lead changed hands several times before Lynn Camp took the lead for good on back to back baskets by Nathan Tanner.
A basket by Chris Eggen put the Wildcats ahead at the end of the quarter, 50-47.
Lynn Camp expanded its lead to 12 points in the fourth quarter, 65-53 when French hit two free throws.
However, a late rally by the Yellow Jackets saw Williamsburg pull within three points.
That was as close as they would come.
