Lowe’s Toolbox for Education funds Pleasant View Elementary School’s Nature’s Finishing Touch Project

School receives $4,700 grant to beautify new school grounds

Pleasant View Elementary School recently announced that Lowe’s has funded their Nature’s Finishing Touch Project.

Pleasant View’s PTO grant application was based on the goal of beautifying the grounds of their new school. The school is looking forward to sharing this project with the community and stakeholders.

Three years ago the Whitley County Board of Education initiated a plan to replace the county’s oldest school building with a new state of the art facility. Now, in its second year of operation, Pleasant View Elementary will receive the finishing touches from nature itself thanks to Lowe’s Toolbox for Education funding and numerous volunteers.

As with most construction projects Pleasant View’s physical land features were altered, but it created wonderful opportunities for landscaping.

Funds from this grant will purchase trees and shrubbery for the school grounds bringing with it charm and life.
Principal Bobby Gibbs is thankful for all the work PTO is doing to help the school and its students. “Our Site Based Decision Making Council and PTO are doing a great job bringing folks together. We are gradually building a true coalition with parents and community members. That’s what it takes to have a successful school. Pleasant View was one out of twenty-four grants awarded in the state of Kentucky and we were very fortunate to have been selected,” he said.

During the development of the proposal PTO recruited several community members and stakeholders to assist with the planting and design as well as other great supporters.

The project will be completed by the fall season and all of the work is soon to begin! Everyone with a “green thumb,” expertise, or just interested parties, is invited to come out and be part of something special. An evening hosted by Mr. Paul Dengel University of Kentucky Horticulturist, John Gambrel former agricultural instructor and Anthony Privett, Lowe’s of London’s Plant Specialist is being planned for all interested volunteers.
