Louisiana man, who allegedly pawned stolen assault rifle, captured after pursuit in Corbin
Corbin Police say the Louisiana man who escaped after leading them on a vehicle and foot pursuit Monday night, is facing more than local charges after he was arrested Wednesday in Canadatown.
Maj. Rob Jones said Thomas William Bunn, 26, was taken into custody when an anonymous tip about his whereabouts led Whitley County Sheriff’s deputies, Corbin and Williamsburg Police to the residence.
"He was asleep on the lady’s couch," Jones said, "He woke up to about three Tazers in his face."
Bunn, who is from Folson, La. Is reportedly wanted on various out of Florida and Louisiana. Jones said the Florida warrant stems from a stolen assault rifle that Bunn allegedly pawned in Williamsburg.
"Williamsburg Police are investigating that," Jones said.
The Louisiana warrants are probation and parole related.
The incident with Bunn began about 11 p.m. Monday when Corbin Police responded to a complaint of a suspicious male parked behind the Day’s Inn off of Interstate 75 at exit 25.
When Officer Kyle Gray attempted to stop Bunn’s 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck, Jones stated that a chase ensued north on I-75 into Laurel County, where Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police assisted.
Bunn turned off the interstate at exit 41 and entered a wooded area where he abandoned his pickup truck and ran off on foot.
State Police brought in two K-9 units who tracked Bunn through the woods for several miles before loosing the scent.
Bunn faces charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police – motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police – on foot, first-degree wanton endangerment – police officer, speeding – 26 mph or greater over the limit and reckless driving.
"He knew he had warrants and if he got stopped or checked he was going back to prison," Jones said.
