Lorene B. Davenport was born September 6th, 1920 and passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on January 5th, 2017.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue and son-in-law Bill Langley of Springfield, VA, daughter, Judy and son-in-law, Art Hayes of St. Augustine, FL, and daughter, Ittylene Neal of Springfield, VA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Davenport of Jellico; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy, and two sons, Jimmy and Tracy Jack; two grandsons, John and T.J.; and all six of her siblings.
She was born in Pruden, KY to Wiley and Minnie Bruce. She attended high school in Jellico, TN where she was on the starting basketball team all four years, which was the high light of her high school days.
After the death of her husband in 1959, she attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg, where she earned her BA degree in Business Education, She taught high school in Whitley City, and at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, VA until she retired in 1985.
She loved to travel and enjoyed sports especially the Washington Red Skins, Tennessee Volunteers and the Kentucky Wildcats. She loved to bowl and traveled all over the country for bowling tournaments.
In the summers she spent her time at her beach home in Chincoteague, VA where boating, fishing, sun bathing and digging for clams were her passion. Also, she loved to play bingo and visit the casinos.
Friends may call Friday, January 13th from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Cox & Son Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following with Rev. Chris Basil officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jellico Cemetery.
