London man dies in two-vehicle crash near Corbin Friday

A two-vehicle crash near Corbin Friday morning resulted in the death of a London man.

According to Laurel County Sheriff John Root, Sheriff’s Deputy John Inman was dispatched to a traffic crash which occurred on Ky 770 approximately near I-75 Exit 29 on Friday at about 8:21 A.M. Upon arrival at the scene, Deputy Inman assessed the crash site and extensive damage to both vehicles and requested an accident reconstructionist. London Police Detective Sgt. Chris Edwards responded to the scene and is the lead investigator of the crash. According to investigators, a Pontiac G6 car traveling eastbound on KY 770 lost control on the rain slick roadway traveling off the left side of the roadway and traveled out of control sliding sideways, downhill and struck an eastbound Dodge minivan. The Dodge minivan was knocked off the roadway into a rock cliff. The Pontiac G6 came to rest blocking the westbound lane of KY 770.

The driver and only occupant of a Pontiac G6 was identified as Eric Grubb age 32 of Keavy Rd., London. He was transported to Baptist Health Corbin where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Dodge minivan is identified as Tiffany Smith age 32 of London. Two occupants in the Smith vehicle included a three-year-old nephew and the driver’s 10 month old child. All three were transported to Baptist Health Care with non-life-threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for 2 1/2 hours. Assisting at the scene was Sgt. Josh Gaylor, Deputy Shawn Boroviak, and CSO Jack Caudill. Also assisting at the scene was Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, Keavy Volunteer fire Department, West Knox Volunteer fire Department, London Laurel County Rescue squad, and Laurel County Emergency Management.
