Local duo arrested for drug, stolen vehicle charges at Corbin Walgreens

A Corbin man and Lily woman are facing felony drug charges and are accused of driving a stolen truck following their arrest Saturday at Walgreens near downtown Corbin.

According to Corbin police, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person at the Walgreen’s store, located at the Corbin of 18th Street and Main Street Saturday night. When Patrolman Jeff Hill arrived at the store, he saw George K. Jones, 35, of Corbin leaving. Jones suddenly ran when he saw officer Hill.

Hill chased Jones a short distance and caught him near the Peach Corner. After a search, he found what is believed to be methamphetamine in Jones’ front pocket. Police say Jones also shoplifted several items from the store, and also admitted to purchasing some Sudafed pills in order to manufacture methamphetamine.

As other officers arrived at the store, Allison Asher, 31, of Lily, came out and then ran when she saw police. She was caught hiding in some bushes behind the store.

Police checked the truck the duo were using as tranportation and found it to be stolen. K-9 Officer Glenn Taylor Jr. used his K-9 dog "Shep" to search the vehicle. Inside, authorities discovered some marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Jones was charged with fleeing and evading police, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), receiving stolen property (auto), resisting arrest, shoplifting, public intoxication and trafficking a controlled substance.

Asher was charged with public intoxication, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and fleeing and evading police. She was also served with four outstanding warrants for various charges.

Both were lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where they remain as of Monday night.

Hill is continuing an investigation in the drug case and Sgt. Shannon Jones is continuing the investigation into the case of the stolen truck. Officers Tim Baker, Kirk Mays, Bill Rose, Taylor, and Whitley County Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Reeves also assisted.
