Local churches serve employees at Baptist Health Corbin

Five local churches linked arms to serve more than 700 employees at Baptist Health Corbin on Nov. 12.
Tom Cassidy, a member of the West Corbin Christian Church, said the idea to feed healthcare workers was born when he saw a Facebook post that The Creek Church in London stating they had fed workers at St. Joseph London.
Cassidy said he knew that The Creek Church has a much larger congregation than his church on Gordon Hill, but he commented on it to his pastor.
He said his pastor took the idea and contacted four other sister Christian churches in the area and asked if they would want to help.
Locust Grove Christian, Steele’s Chapel Christian, 17th Street Christian and Woodbine Christian churches answered the call to help with the event.
The churches were looking to feed over 700 hospital employees.
Kroger, Save A Lot and Walmart supplied bottled water and soda for the event.
David’s Steakhouse provided the food, which was paid for by sponsors.
“One little Facebook blip turned into a pretty sizable event today,” said Cassidy. “I couldn’t be more happy.”
“We just wanted to be able to say thank you,” said Cassidy. “Yesterday we honored our military service people. Today we are honoring those that have fought an invisible foe.”
