Local artist will have his artwork auctioned at 2018 Unbridled Eve Derby Gala
A local artist will unveil his work Monday in Corbin, which will be auctioned off, for charity at the 2018 Unbridled Eve Derby Gala.
J. Spanky Bunch, who created the work with the help of Southeast Apparatus, Hinkle Printing and Alan Galleries, said this is the second year that he has been invited to contribute.
“It is one of the most fulfilling opportunities as an artist,” Bunch said of having his work included in the gala.
Bunch said the work, which he described as a mixed media piece featuring aluminum, vinyl and acrylic paint in a floating frame, depicts a jockey riding a horse down the backstretch at Churchill Downs.
“You can see the spires in the background,” Bunch said of the work entitled, “Across the Board.”
“I wanted to do something that showcases the talents and abilities of some of our local craftsmen,” he said.
The unveiling, which is open to the public, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Season’s Restaurant on Main Street in Corbin.
Bunch, who serves as an arson investigator for the Kentucky State Police out of Post 10 in Harlan, said he was approached about participating in the gala by former KSP Commissioner Rodney Brewer.
“He was an artist as well and asked if I would be willing to participate,” Bunch said.
“God has blessed me and been wonderful to me. I’m just happy to be able to use the talents He gave me to do some good for others,” he said.
Proceeds from the sale of the artwork at the gala will go to Blessings in a Backpack, which provides food to hungry children to keep them fed outside of school, and the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund.
KSP’s Trooper Island Camp has also been a beneficiary in previous years.
